Celebrating Craftsmanship: Showcasing Our Customers Creations

Updated: Jun 19

At Scottish Wood, we believe every piece of sustainably sourced timber has a story waiting to be told - and no one tells it better than our customers! From handcrafted furniture to stunning architectural features, our community of makers, joiners, designers, and DIY enthusiasts transforms our Scottish hardwoods and Larch into works of art.

We’re proud to share a glimpse of our Customers creations and what’s possible when skilled hands meet beautiful native timber. We hope you’ll find inspiration, discover new ideas, and see just how far a piece of Scottish Wood can go!

Cladded Lodge

Henry Backhouse - The Out Barn Weddings and Events, has done a fantastic job bringing this new lodge to life using our Scottish Larch and Shadow gap cladding. His careful design and attention to detail make the most of Larch's warm tones and clean lines, giving the building a modern, welcoming feel that sits perfectly in its natural setting. This beautiful lodge is a true reflection of skill and thoughtful approach, showing just how well quality Scottish timber can complement inspired craftsmanship.

Spalted Beech Breakfast Bar

Another one of our recent customer highlights is this beautifully crafted breakfast bar, made for our customer Karen Kidd by Liam Schager and Doug Birley's independent work, from two carefully selected pieces of our natural edge spalted beech. With precise joining and a keen eye for showcasing the timber’s unique spalting and rich colour variations, the boards were skilfully joined to create a seamless, flowing surface that’s now the stunning focal point of Karens kitchen! This handcrafted piece perfectly combines everyday practicality with the timeless character of native Scottish hardwood - a true testament to vision, skill, and dedication to beautiful craftsmanship.

Log Carvings

This standout project comes from Jonny Stableford (Jonny Chainsaw), who transforms logs into extraordinary pieces of art! Using our Scottish timber as his canvas, Johnny carves beautiful, intricate designs - from decorative motifs to charming figures and more. Some of his recent creations includes these remarkable bears carved directly from a single log, perfectly shows his eye for detail, creativity, and passion for traditional carving. His work is a wonderful reminder of the character and possibilities that lie within every piece of native wood.

Elm and Resin Projects

We’re also excited to showcase Alex of AK Design’s stunning creations using our Scottish Elm combined with vibrant resin accents. From elegant sharing boards to bespoke tables, Alex’s work beautifully blends the natural character of Burr Elm with modern resin artistry, resulting in pieces that are both functional and visually captivating. Each project highlights the unique grain patterns of the Elm, enhanced by colourful resin pours that bring a fresh, contemporary twist to traditional woodworking. Alex’s pieces perfectly illustrate how creativity and craftsmanship can transform native timber into truly one-of-a-kind statement items.

Natural edge Elm Shelf

Our Timber-shop customer Martin Coutt’s natural edge Elm piece takes pride of place in his dining room, where its character and beauty truly shine. After careful sanding and oiling, the timber’s rich grain and organic edges have been brought to life, creating a warm and inviting centre-piece. This handcrafted piece perfectly showcases the timeless appeal of native Scottish wood, blending rustic charm with elegant simplicity. Lovely work.

Larch Arches

A wonderful example of how our timber can elevate outdoor spaces comes from Edinburgh Paving and Landscaping Co.’s latest garden projects, where our dressed Larch, supplied by our sawmill, frames the gardens beautifully with graceful arches. These sturdy yet elegant structures add height, interest, and a natural focal point, complementing the paving and planting perfectly. Stunning work and a great demonstration of how locally sourced Scottish timber can bring both charm and practicality to any garden design.

Hardwood Bar-Top and Table

Fantastic use of our timber by Peter Joyce who put his woodworking skills to great use with two fantastic home projects. For his table, he chose three beautiful pieces of Spalted Beech from our rough sawn stores and turned them into a unique, eye-catching Table that really showcases the wood’s natural character. He also used two carefully selected pre-planed boards to build a stylish top for his home bar, adding a warm, handcrafted touch to his entertaining space. Peter’s projects are a perfect example of how our customers turn quality timber into something personal and special!

Wood Art

Regular Timber-shop customers Bob and Jeanette Weir have been putting their creativity to wonderful use by turning our live edge boards and offcuts into unique pieces of wood art. Using a mix of burning and hand-painted designs, they bring each piece of timber to life with intricate patterns and colourful touches. Their work shows just how much character and charm can be created from even the simplest offcuts, and is a great example of how our customers transform raw wood into beautiful, one-of-a-kind art for the home.

Elm Desk Tops

Timber-shop customer Andrew Dove has made fantastic use of our natural edge Elm, creating not one but two desks with a simple, hands-on approach! Gluing two boards together and cutting them to size for a neat, functional workspace. For the larger one, he cleverly repurposed legs from an old desk, giving them new life and pairing them with a fresh Elm top. A quick sand and a sturdy set of legs were all it took to turn our timber into two practical, characterful pieces. Andrew’s thoughtful, resourceful approach is a great example of how our customers can craft something truly personal with just a few tools and quality wood.

Ash Coffee Table

Look at Chris Wiper's wonderful Christmas present for his daughter’s new cottage using straight edge Ash sourced from our online store. With careful work and an eye for clean, simple design, he crafted a beautiful Ash coffee table with smooth, softened edges - the perfect addition to a cosy living space. It’s a lovely example of how a thoughtful idea and well-chosen boards can become a treasured piece for years to come - and a lasting reminder of his care and craftsmanship.
